Presentation of the Hamburg Prize for Theoretical Physics on November 10, 2021

We cordially invite you to the presentation of the Hamburg Prize for Theoretical Physics on November 10, 2021. After the award ceremony had to be postponed last year due to the pandemic, two scientists will receive the prize in this year.

The prize will be awarded to Professor Valery Rubakov (2020 laureate) for his work on the origin of the universe as well as Professor Eugene Demler (2021 laureate) for his work on quantum fluids and solids. Following the award ceremony, there will be a joint meal with the awardees, to which we also cordially invite you. Please register below.

Important notes:

Since this will be a 2G event, we ask you to have your proof of vaccination or recovery as well as an official photo ID ready at the entrance. A negative test result does not grant permission.

The Hamburg Prize for Theoretical Physics has been awarded annually since 2010 for outstanding research achievements in theoretical physics. In memory of the German physicist and mathematician Arnold Sommerfeld, it has been endowed with a total of 137,036 euros since 2018. Therefore, the prize money can simply be written as 1,000 euros/α. α is Sommerfeld's fine structure constant. The prize winner will receive 100,000 euros in prize money for their research, while 37,036 euros will be available for conferences and meetings around the award ceremony.
